Agnes Fanning

District Nurse Project Manager, The Queen's Nursing Institute
Agnes had various roles in the NHS but found her niche when she qualified as a District Nurse. Working as a District Nurse enabled Agnes to share her enthusiasm and knowledge of caring for people in their own private homes or in nursing or residential homes. During her time as a District Nurse Agnes worked with local Care Homes and developed educational programmes for them, frequently delivering these sessions in her own time after work and often capturing the night shift of Care Home Nurses. These educational sessions were received very positively and led Agnes to take a position at Buckinghamshire New University. She became Course Leader for the community programmes and BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care and later became Associate Professor. Agnes interest in maintaining high quality patient care inspired her doctoral studies into how social innovation can enhance patient care across all aspects of the community. Agnes became an independent healthcare consultant in 2018 and has worked with the RCN and the QNI in developing the Outstanding Model of District Nursing report (2019). Currently Agnes is leading the Care Home Nurses Network and is also developing Educational and Professional standards for Care Home Nurses.
