Life Story Work with people with dementia

Life story work is beneficial for all – we’ve all had interesting lives! This seminar will look at the benefits of creating life stories with people living with dementia for the person, their family, health and care workers It will outline the difference between reminiscence and life story work with a focus on the creative process with an individual rather than the end product and include practical tips.


Biography

Jean Tottie, an occupational therapist, worked in senior levels in health and social care all her career before taking early retirement to care for her father with dementia. Jean has dedicated her time since he died to ensuring that carers are recognised and respected as experts. She is a founding director of the Life Story Network (LSN) and has been involved in a number of national policy initiatives and was instrumental in setting up the national Carers Call2Action within the Dementia Action Alliance and its legacy: tide – together in dementia everyday which is supported by the LSN. Jean represents tide at various national strategic forums. Jean was awarded the Lifetime Achievement in Dementia Care award in 2018.
