Achieving Cultural Inclusivity in Dementia Care

20 Mar 2024
Keynote Stage
Alzheimer's & Dementia Care

Equality/Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) refers to fair opportunity and treatment for all and yet, this is not reflected in many dementia support services. Health inequalities in dementia care remain, with barriers to fair access and treatment for those living with dementia from ethnic minority communities well reported. The lack of culturally inclusive dementia care, coupled with the lack of understanding about dementia in certain ethnic minorities have left many communities underserved. Based on her work and latest research to date, Dr Jutlla demystifies EDI how this links to the concept of intersectionality, and invites the audience to consider how culturally inclusive dementia care can be achieved via a person-centred approach.

Speakers
Dr Karan Jutlla, University of Wolverhampton - Head of the Centre for Applied and Inclusive Health Research and Dementia Lead
